Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA has introduced poi lessons to help students relieve stress. The hour-long classes once a week give students time to forget about their worries and focus on spinning poi.

Part of each session involves turning off the lights and using LED poi (like these).

The classes also help to improve hand-eye co-ordination and some students report the trance-like feelings associated with the mental state, "flow". Don't know what flow is? Have a look at this article.
