Aerial hoops, also known as aerial rings or lyras, are a classic aerial circus performance prop much like trapezes and aerial ropes. Due to their widespread use and simplicity of setup, along with the amazing range of beautiful, flowing, and daring moves that can be performed on them they are one of the most popular pieces of aerial apparatus around.
Our one point Aerial hoops are built to our exacting standards in our workshop to be the ideal beginner and intermediate lyra. The single tab at the top of this hoop makes it simple to rig, and allows you to have a single rope or strop to work with above your hoop. This also makes it ideal for spinning using one of our many swivels, and great for hocking into your rigging for any over the hoop work. These Aerial hoops are made from Steel tubing, allowing great strength without adding too much weight. If you want something with a bit more momentum, try our solid steel hoops.
One point hoops are generally favoured for their wide versatility, but will rotate slightly even when rigged without a swivel, if you don't want your hoop to rotate at all, we suggest one of our two point aerial hoops.
All of our Aerial Hoops come ready to rig up and use out of the box, with a grippy matt powder coating that is durable and looks great. However, the bare powder coating can take a little while to warm up (similar to a pole dancing pole), so many people prefer to tape their hoop up in one of our many colourful adhesive cotton tapes to provide more on demand grip. You can find a guide to taping your aerial hoop here.
The tab on this hoop is ready to accept any suitable carabiner in order to connect it to a strop, hanging cable, or cable reinforced cotton rope. Please note - the 12mm quick links (maillon rapide) will not fit our aerial hoops as the thread is wider than the hole in the rigging point (the 8mm maillon rapides will fit). You can also connect the hoop directly to a strop without the need for a carabiner.
Sizing: If you are unsure which size you need, a basic measurement is to sit on a chair and measure from the seat to the top of your head, then add 10cm (eg: chair to top of head is 80cm, then you likely need a 90cm aerial hoop). For more information on getting the right sized hoop, and how you can find the perfect size for your body, arms, and legs, see our article on how to size an aerial hoop.
Please note: all sizes refer to the OUTER diameter (OD). The internal diameter is 5cm less than the external diameter.
If you're getting an aerial hoop for a studio or for shared use, a 95cm ring would often be the most suitable as it’s the most popular size and is mid way through the range.
